KUDOS: NC Coastal Federation Acquires 75 Plus Acres of Land

The North Carolina Coastal Federation partnered with Carteret County to acquire 76.25 acres of land in the community of Ocean on March 20. Located between the Morada Bay Subdivision and  Red Barn Road, the property has a remarkable view of the Bogue Sound that will ultimately be shared with and accessible by the public.

The purchase price of $7,474,000 was made possible through funding from the Coastal Federation, the North Carolina Clean Water Management Trust Fund, the U.S. Department of Defense Readiness and Environmental Protection Integration Program, the North Carolina General Assembly, and the North Carolina Parks and Recreational Trust Fund. T

The property will increase public access to educational and recreational opportunities through nature trails, access to Bogue Sound and the restored habitats, and onsite conservation techniques demonstrations. The events building will host workshops, volunteer activities and student programs. The Event Center will also assist people statewide through online resources and remote learning on topics like stormwater management, coastal resilience, marine debris, water quality and more.
